- I do not understand why 401 occurs even on my login page when and only when starting debug with vs, while only anonymous access and web form auth.

Asp Net Script Debugging F5 debugging should just work in Classic mode provided you have done the prerequisite steps 1 - 3. Asp Net Remote Debugging Running the web page outside of the debugger may provide further information" Extra info: - Running the page outside of VS.NET works fine. - I can attach VS.NET to the W3WP.exe
This solved the problem for me from the command line: cd %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 aspnet_regiis.exe -i Just make sure to go into IIS Manager afterwards and double-check your application pools and such, since That didn't help either. Even if you are not, you may sometime in the future so running your application in Integrated mode will help you make sure you are well positioned for it. I'm still shocked as to why all of this was necessary and why I had to do all of this rigmarole. During development, or when troubleshooting technical issues, you should turn off the custom error page and enable debugging. I am able to run the ASP.NET web site in IIS 7 without debugging just fine, but when I press F5 to debug it, I get: Unable to start debugging on Could not start ASP.NET or ATL Server debugging. I do not get Windows Authentication in the IIS Security Settings. Now, I un-installed both IIS and VS.net and installed again in the same order. The only way i can debug my asp.net-app is to move it to the Classis-Pool in IIS7.
